Three Don’ts when at an Acting Audition

Most people know the basics of what to do at an acting audition. You want to bring your talent, passion, energy, and professionalism into a great audition performance. But there are many thing’s to remember not to do at a casting call or acting audition.

Several “Don’t do” things when at an Acting Audition

1. Don’t include your  casting director as a prop in the audition. I’ve heard people recommend this before, to “connect” with the casting director but I can assure you it will be viewed as unprofessional and sometimes offensive. Casting directors are at you’re acting audition to analyze your acting skill, not to become part of your audition. And definitely don’t ever touch the casting director when at an audition or casting call.

2. Don’t suck up to your casting director at your audition. It is important that you show your talent at being professional and likable while avoiding the urge to suck up to the casting director. Yes, you want the casting director to like you – that helps with any industry, but sucking up will have the opposite effect. You don’t want any actions overshadowing your acting performance.

3. In most auditions, don’t ask how you did. Don’t be unsure of yourself. You walk into the audition and out of the audition knowing that you’re a great actor or actress. When you’re finished you may have a sense that your casting call opportunity did not go as planned, but you need to avoid the temptation to ask how you did in your audition. Asking the casting director how you did in your audition will show uncertainty and may distract the casting director from soaking up your acting performance.
